Q. What if I don't want to put certain information on a tag?

A. You don't have to. You can put whatever you wish on any line on the tag. Simply ignore the prompts to the left of each side. Be sure to center your text on the tag - top to bottom. We will center right to left.

Q. What information should I put on a tag and what information should I leave off?

A. This gets tricky. There are many "schools of thought" on this issue.

Some people say never put your pet's name on the tag as it will make it easier for someone to bond with or control your pet and, thus, keep your pet. Some think putting "Reward" on a tag only motivate bounty hunters. Some are uncomfortable with their addresses running around the neighborhood.

Without endorsing or refuting any school, we would like to stress what should be on a pet ID tag. As much information as you can fit (use both sides!) that will help the good Samaritan that finds your lost pet and interrupts their daily routine to reunite you with your beloved pet.

Think about the dynamics of a rescue. 98% of the time your pet will be located within one mile of your home (having just completed his covert escape tunnel under the fence). The neighbor that finds him is usually outside, on the way somewhere, when she stops to help a lost pet find his home. If she can see that your pet lives just around the corner, or can call you at work, on your mobile, at home, or even call your neighbor or veterinarian if she can't reach you - wouldn't you agree, your pet's chances of a safe return are substantially increased?

Q. Why do I need a personalized ID tag when I have a rabies or license tag already?

A. A few good reasons.

If you think your pet will respect the normal workweek when he decides to bolt, you'll be disappointed. Pets need to be rescued 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays.

Requiring a third party to research records to locate you is not being a good friend to your good Samaritan or your pet. You owe them a simple solution - your telephone number at a minimum.

If that third party is City Hall, you're setting yourself up for some steep "Get Out of Jail" fines. Why involve the authorities when you can make a direct connection between your neighbor and yourself with a personalized ID tag. Typical fines for returning a loose dog are ten times the price of a tag.

Does your pet need special medication or do you live in a harsh climate? Two, of many good reasons why you should take responsible steps to ensure your pet the speediest return home in the event she is lost.

Q. When can I expect my order to arrive?

A. All orders are shipped within 24 to 48 hours of submission. We download orders on a daily basis (Monday through Friday). Unless faster postal service has been ordered, all orders are shipped 1st Class Mail which means you can expect to receive your order from 2 to 10 days after submission.

Q. How long will my tags last?

A. Every ePetTag.com ID tag is guaranteed to last a lifetime. We stamp our metal tags and paint fill the letters for easy reading. If you've noticed some pet tags don't last long it's because engraved metal tags are produced as if they were jewelry, using a scratch process. This method simply will not hold up bouncing around on a pet collar.

Q. How do I mount Hush Oval Tags?

A. Hush Ovals are supplied with two sets of telescoping rivets or are mounted free with the purchase of a collar when the tag is ordered.

Using a leather punch for leather collars or a heated nail or ice pick for nylon collars, make two holes in your collar. Do not cut a nylon collar - it will fray. A heated ice pick will melt a hole and seal the edges.

Place a male rivet through the collar and tag, cover with a female rivet, place on a solid surface and join by hammering together. Be sure you mount the tag to the outside of the collar.
